As you may or may not know, Queensland Australia is turning into one big coal pit. Many people are suffering with diminishing health from toxic overload. CSG is widespread and mines (mostly owned overseas) are now able to operate 200 meters from anyone's house and the Australian public are no longer legally allowed to protest these mines going into their area or on their own land. Our beautiful Great Barrier Reef is now under more threat than ever before.

Much of the area where food is grown for Australia and indeed overseas markets, the Darling Downs, is now populated with CSG mines. By 2020 we will apparently have around 54,000 of them in Queensland...and they take their profits overseas and are taxed either nothing or maybe 1-3% if we are lucky.

New to Queensland: The Darling Downs Environment Council Inc. is a not-for-profit, incorporated body with the prime objective of promoting environmentally sustainable use of our environment. The Council is affiliated with the Queensland Conservation Council (QCC) and operates in Southern and South West Queensland. The main purpose of the group is to monitor regional planning and development outcomes that affect the natural and built environment. The Darling Downs Environment Council Inc. aims to assist any person, member, government, university, educational institution, or private organisation in obtaining and disseminating information about the environment and the conservation of the natural environment and places of heritage value.

We are very open to conversations with other groups engaged in protection of the environment.

We as yet don't have our own website or Facebook page but it IS coming. The following contacts will suffice for now. The HomeofGoingGreen site and Hogg-blog have a contact page if you find yourself there Smiley
